Description / History:
There are glass bottles in this set. Embossments on the bottom of the bottles read "T.C.W.–Co USA". The TC Wheaton company was operated out of Millville, New Jersey starting in 1888. The company was well known for pharmaceutical glassware such as these bottles. Each has a glass stopper and a tincture style neck/opening. There are also labels indicating the orginal contents.

Bottle A: Has the label "Pilocarpine Hydrochloride 1% solution". It is a cholinergic (agent which mimics the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter) prepared as a sterile topical ophthalmic solution. Historically, it was used in the treatment of glaucoma.

Bottle B: Has the label "Locke Solution". It is an aqueous solution of sodium chloride, calcium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and dextrose adjusted to a pH of 7.4. It is used in physiological experiments to keep the excised heart beating. It was also a common saline used to prepare fresh material for live study. There is a small amount of clear liquid remaining in the bottle.
