Description / History:
Black leather pocket surgical kit with red velvet and faded purple cloth interior. Instruments include female and male catheters, double blade and single blade tortoise shell scalpels, arterial forceps, probes, a tongue depressor and a few other unknown tools.

This kit seems to be a random assortment of intruments, many of which are from completely different decades: some date from the early 1800's, while others date from the late 1800's. The one tongue depressor in the kit is dated from c.1800 to around 1850, and looks to fit perfectly in the kit. For this reason, as well as the fact that many other tools are dated to around this time, the bag may be dated to a pre–1850's decade. Whatever the exact date is, it is clear the physician who owned this kit was in practice a decent amount of time and collected an assortment of instruments as time went on.
